Moving Tips / Checklist
At Abreu Movers we want our customers to be ready for their local or long-distance move. Ensuring that you're prepared for moving day helps us make sure that everything is ready to be loaded up and moved to your destination. We have put together the following 4 week checklist of moving tips to help you.
3-4 Weeks Before Moving
• Get rid of anything you aren't bringing with you.
• Find out where to dispose of household chemicals like old paint.
• Make a list of everything you're bringing to your new home.
• Find out the replacement value of all belongings, for insurance purposes.
• Fill out a change of address form. Notify friends, family of your new address.
• Fill out an IRS change of address form.
• Get copies of your medical and dental records, if necessary.
• Get copies of veterinary records, if necessary.
• If you're moving out of state, find out about auto licensing and insurance.
• Change your address on your driver's license.
• Notify your kids' schools and have their records transferred to new schools.
• Return any cable equipment.
• Make hotel and airline reservations if you need them.
8 to 14 days before you move
• Return library books or any other borrowed items.
• Collect all the items you may have loaned out.
• Make arrangements to disconnect gas, electric and other utilities.
• Make arrangements to connect utilities at your new place.
• Arrange to have major appliances prepped for the move.
2 to 7 days before you move
• Get rid of all flammables & figure out what you're bringing with you in the car or plane.
• Arrange for removal of "installed items" you're bringing with you.
• Pack a suitcase with the clothes and toiletries you'll need the first day home.
• Pack a special box with other essentials you'll need for the first few days.
The day before Moving Day
• Take down curtains and curtain rods.
• Empty, defrost and clean your refrigerator.
• Make sure it has 24 hours to air dry.
• Clean and air your stove & Plan your breakfast.
• Pack your personal belongings except your alarm clock.
• Go to sleep early you'll be glad of it tomorrow.
Moving Day
• Collect all keys to locking items. Put them in a safe place.
• Strip the beds but leave them intact. We will dismantle them.
• Make sure you're at home when movers arrive, so you can sign an inventory.
• Walk around with the crew chief while he does the inventory.
• Make sure everything is ready for the move.
• Keep your signed bill of lading and inventory in an easily accessible place.
• Make sure the driver has the correct delivery address and phone number.
• Confirm the expected delivery time with the driver.
• Before you leave, do a final walkt hrough of every room. Check all closets and cabinets.

After receiving several quotes, I decided to hire Abreu Movers Bronx because their prices were the most competitive in the area. They are extremely well-organized and communicate frequently and effectively. The movers arrived on time and informed me half an hour ahead of time so that we could prepare. They were very professional and efficient; they dismantled and reassembled all of our furniture from our one-bedroom apartment in a surprisingly short amount of time. It was well worth the money.💯 👏

Abreu Movers Bronx helped me move apartments within NYC this Memorial Day Weekend. They were one of the most affordable quotes I could find for walk-up apartments, so I wasn't sure what to expect at first. However, I have only good things to say about them now. Communication was excellent both before & during the move. The movers themselves worked quickly, had good attitudes, and were sufficiently careful (zero broken items). I would use Abreu Movers Bronx again in the future.

This is the second time I have used Abreu Movers Bronx for a local love (Bronx to Harlem) and both times I have been really impressed. The office staff is efficient and professional, and booking them was a breeze, even when I had to make a change to the contents that I was moving. The price was very reasonable. The movers ( Jay and Eddie) called me the day of the move to give me an ETA, and then called again to apologize when they were stuck in traffic and had to change the ETA. I highly recommend them.

Had a really easy experience with Abreu Movers Bronx. Easy appointment set up for an estimate. Friendly representative came to do the estimate. Good communication prior to move. Easy move to storage. Hopefully getting it all back from storage in a few months will be just as easy! We had packed most things ourselves which the movers very efficiently transferred to the truck. They also carefully wrapped our furniture and packed all our kitchen items for us which was great. Would recommend 🚚.

Rush and his crew were amazing and made my move so seamless! The 4 of them were in and out of my old apt in 30-40 minutes, took apart my furniture and put it back together in my new place with ease. Nothing was broken in this move, and they were all so friendly. I had some additional pieces that I forgot to mention when I initially called for a quote, and they were gracious in taking more things, and the up charge was super reasonable. I highly recommend this company and I will be using them again if/when I move again 🚚😊!

We cannot say enough wonderful things about Abreu Movers Bronx! We live in NYC and have moved apartments using Abreu Movers 3 times. We continue to be impressed. Last March, due to the COVID pandemic, we temporarily moved out of NYC on short notice. Abreu Movers packed up our entire apartment and put all of our furniture and belongings in storage for us (while we were out of town). Just last week we hired Abreu Movers to move our stuff out of storage and back to NYC into our new apartment. All of our furniture and belongings had been packed away and stored with such care that it was as if we had packed it ourselves. As always, our move was quick and seamless, and the movers from Abreu Movers were kind, respectful and extremely skilled 💯.

I called multiple times before the move, and Will was patient with all of my questions and requests. Scott and his movers were friendly, efficient, and professional. Overpriced, 3 people came, they did not have inventory. It is hourly rate and only one person was able to disamble and assemble furniture. Slow, dragged time. So you book for 4 hours and it was 8, because only one person was actually able to work with furniture. Will not recommend. Quality of work was good, no damage of furniture, that why 2 stars.

I was very happy with everything they did for us. The guys were on time, caring, considerate, and friendly. They had to go to two addresses to pick up, and 2 places to drop off everything was carefully wrapped and secured. I gave their card to my realtor. I was so happy. I have used Abreu Movers twice now, and each time has been great. They offer professional packing services as well as disassembling and reassembling. They have always arrived with a smile on their faces, willing and ready to work and on time. They have moved me in horrible weather and still do not complain or try to push it off. Their prices are also competitive, and I will continue to use them.

They did a good job. They were nice and helped with all I asked. I would have them help me again. Super easy going and moved my entire house and had my new home set up in less than 6 hours! From start to finish, I felt extremely comfortable with Abreu Movers handling my long-distance move. I moved from NY to TX. From the beginning of my experience dealing with Colin over the phone, I felt comfortable and confident that they were the right ones for the job. Scott took the time to go through absolutely everything with me over the phone and was very accommodating to my unique situation. The movers themselves were top-notch as well. Joe, Ivan, and Mike were incredibly efficient, fast, and punctual. They even managed to fit some big-ticket items through some narrow passages that I wasn't even sure would be possible with no damage. These 3 guys were awesome!! Very nice, great attitudes, and very focused. The crazy heat didn't even slow them down. My entire experience with Abreu Movers was great, and I highly recommend anyone who might still be on the fence when trying to give this company your business. I will definitely be calling them again for my next move.

They are the best moving company in Bronx, NY! Don’t hire anyone else. These guys are organized, quick, communicative, professional and so so helpful. I will never ever use anyone else for a move again. Abreu Movers finished in 4 hours what it took other moving companies more than 8 hours. They went out of their way to make things as easy as possible for me and ease my stress. If you have hired a different company, cancel them and hire Abreu Movers. You will be glad you did.

Jay, Eddie, and the rest of the moving team were so helpful in moving us to our first home! They were courteous and professional every step of the way. We called several moving companies and what we were billed from Abreu Movers was more than reasonable. The receptionist we spoke with at the start of our booking was knowledgeable, patient and explained the total costs upfront from beginning to end and as new homeowners we appreciated that there were no hidden or last minute fees. During the actual move they were careful with our possessions and even helped us tape up some last minute boxes. Eddie took apart and put back our furniture with care. We will be recommending the team at Abreu Movers to all of our family and friends that move in the New York City area!

The staff was very friendly and professional. They were able to accommodate my needs with a moving date almost immediately, which I really appreciated. The movers came earlier than expected, but they did not rush through the job--they took care of every item carefully as if it were their own! When we finished packing up all our stuff they even asked us where we wanted everything put. It felt like an old friend helping me move again rather than just someone doing grunt work for minimum wage because that's what people usually think about when you're hiring movers.

My team on moving day showed up with a smile on their faces ready for work! I would not recommend this company for moving. Crew was supposed to be at my place at 12, didn’t get there until 4, so by that time the crew was tired and frustrated. They didn’t like the fact that the place I was moving into had 2 flights of stairs, so instead of being careful they manhandled my furniture. The dining room table, the living room tv stand, the bedroom dresser and my portable fireplace, which were all in mint condition now have scratches all over them, they chipped a huge chunk out of the tv stand. Idk how they have a five star rating. Do not use this company if you value the condition of your furniture.

We cannot praise Abreu Movers enough for how great they did on our recent move! They were always prompt with replying to emails, and the moving crew were amazing! They made sure to protect any fragile items, moved quickly, and told some great jokes. We had an upright piano to be moved along with our other belongings, and they moved the piano with such ease and worked well as a team. We requested the Truck, and are happy to know that a portion of our bill will be donated to Cancer Care. We will definitely be recommending them to anyone we know that is moving, and will use their services again for any future moves we have.

What can I say? Moving itself is stressful. But Abreu Movers made it one of the easiest experiences I've had. I'll be honest, I do not usually use moving companies. My father owned a moving company for years and I worked for him. So I know what I'm doing and I know what to watch for. The crew that moved us was legitimately the best crew I have ever seen work together and exceeded every expectation I had. I will definitely be using them again to move some pieces of furniture and when I move again in 5 years 😉 communication was top notch and they move fast! Extremely unprofessional and unreliable business. Had a last minute move and asked ahead of time if they definitely had the availability as I needed to schedule movers asap. I was assured the had the availability and would "not waste my time if they didn't". I continuously followed up with them to see if they were done "working on my quote" as I needed a booking confirmation asap. Spent two days trying to follow up with them just for them to respond after two days saying "No we are not available and cannot help - sorry." - Horrible customer service and all around terrible business.
